Broadband speed and coverage

Two of the most common "problems" with home broadband are the following:

1. Broadband speed too slow

2. Wireless coverage not good enough

Fortunately, there are solutions for both of these - even if you cannot get full fibre yet.

Read on to find out more...

Broadband types available - explained

There are essentially 5 number of different types of broadband available. To break these down into something which is easier to understand:

1. ADSL - This is where there is only a copper cable to a BT cabinet and then, onwards to your home. The speed of this connection will typically be 15Mb down and 1Mb up.

2. FTTC - stands for "fibre to the cabinet". This type of connection is where there is a fibre cable to the BT cabinet and then, it uses an existing copper cable to your home. The speed of this connection will typically be 500Mb down and 3-400Mb up.

3. FTTP - stands for "fibre to the premises". This is also known as "full fibre" and is where a fibre cable runs all the way to your home. The speed of this connection is forever increasing but currently, you can achieve speeds up to 2000Mb (2Gb) down and, up.

4. 4G / 5G mobile broadband. This is great as a temporary solution however, you can be limited by many factors including the weather and time of day!

5. Starlink satellite broadband. As an alternative to 4G / 5G mobile broadband and, where you can only achieve ADSL broadband, Starlink can be a great alternative. This solution is not the cheapest upfront and, per month however, is the best way to achieve near full fibre speeds when there is little chance of getting FTTC or FTTP.

Wireless "blackspots" (no more)

So you have full FTTP broadband and, in most of your house, can achieve lightening fast speeds? Fantastic!

But what if you cannot get full coverage in the whole house or, maybe you have an outbuilding used as an office or, an annex.

Fortunately, I can help get network coverage to where you need it most using a range of different home networking solutions.

*A site survey will be required to work out the requirements in order to put together a tailored solution.
